McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history at Missouri S&T, has been awarded the seventh annual Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History for Fire and Fortitude: The US Army in the Pacific War, 1941-1943 (Dutton-Penguin). CAREER Award funds research on earthquake history
A researcher at Missouri S&T has won the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award for his research into the history of earthquakes along the North American-Caribbean tectonic plate boundary, which runs through the Caribbean Sea from Haiti to the Guatemala-Mexico border. The research will provide new insights for elementary and middle school students and will help scientists better understand how and when earthquakes occur in the region.

The SME fellows honor was established in 1986 to recognize outstanding contributions to the social, technological and educational aspects of the manufacturing profession. Missouri S&T geohazards expert wins Schuster Medal
Dr. J. David Rogers’ expertise and teaching in geohazards such as landslides, floods and earthquakes has gained an international reputation and garnered several awards. Most recently, Rogers received the Schuster Medal from the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) and the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG). The award is named for CGS and AEG member Dr. Robert Schuster, whose career was related primarily to geohazards.
